After extensive discussions between the university and several internal and community partners, Principal Daniel Woolf has announced that Homecoming will be reinstated beginning next October.

“I know how important Homecoming is to our alumni, and I’ve also heard how important it is to our students, and the local community,” says Principal Woolf. “I want to acknowledge the many groups whose perspectives have helped inform my decision to reinstate the Homecoming tradition.”

Homecoming will be held on two weekends in October of next year, October 4-6 and October 18-20. It will blend familiar university traditions – including home football games – with new and innovative programming for alumni, students and members of the Kingston community.

“As an alumna of this great university, I am not only personally excited that Homecoming has been reinstated, but also aware of how overjoyed alumni will be to return to campus for Homecoming festivities next fall,” says Jess Joss, President, Queen’s University Alumni Association.

Over the past year Principal Woolf has worked with the university’s Office of Advancement and the Queen’s University Alumni Association, along with the Rector and student leaders from the Alma Mater Society (AMS), the Society of Graduate and Professional Students (SGPS), and the Queen’s Student Alumni Association (QSAA), to find out what kind of reunion experience would best serve alumni, students, and the community. Kingston Police, the mayor, city councillors, business and community leaders, and city residents also participated in these conversations.

“Students are a proud part of the Queen’s Homecoming tradition, and I know I speak for many of them when I say we are ecstatic to see Homecoming reinstated,” says Nick Francis, Rector. “We know that students will continue to show the same good judgment that helped lead to this decision.”
