Principal Daniel Woolf says he is deeply dismayed to learn about a letter sent to a same-sex couple within the university community.
Karen Dubinsky, a Professor in the Departments of Global Development Studies and History, and her partner, Susan Belyea, a graduate student in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies received the letter at their Kingston home. In it, the anonymous writer outlines threats the couple can anticipate if they do not leave the city. The letter specifically addresses the couple’s sexual orientation.
“I am absolutely appalled by this incident,” says Principal Daniel Woolf. “I have expressed my support privately to Karen and Susan to say that we are here for them. I also want every member of the Queen’s community to know that this is an institution committed to protecting our faculty, staff and students from discrimination of any kind.”
