Queen’s students are actively engaged in a variety of peer leadership activities and community service initiatives on campus and in the Kingston community. In recognition of the positive contributions that students are making, the university has established two new annual awards.

The peer learning assistants program is just one of many examples of students helping each other. The new Peer Leadership Award celebrates students who have exemplified excellence in peer-to-peer assistance, education and outreach.

Nominations are being accepted through March 9 for the Brian Yealland Community Leadership Award and the Peer Leadership Award.

The is named in honour of Mr. Yealland, former Queen’s Chaplain. The award will be presented to up to two students annually who have made a significant contribution working with youth and helping them realize their potential to achieve.

The will be presented to up to two Queen’s students each year who, through their commitment, skill and dedication, have exemplified excellence in peer-to-peer assistance, education and outreach.

“We see many examples every day of students helping others and serving the broader community and we want to acknowledge their efforts and contributions,” says Vice-Provost and Dean of Student Affairs Ann Tierney. “We are looking forward to celebrating the achievements of so many Queen’s students who have made a difference in the lives of people around them.”
