Queen’s University researcher Myra Hird (Environmental Studies) has been selected for a prestigious Leverhulme Trust Visiting Professorship, allowing her to work with international colleagues on environmental research.
The position is being hosted in the United Kingdom at Queen Mary University of London and Lancaster University.
“I am honoured by this opportunity to raise awareness of the research that Kerry Rowe (Civil Engineering) and I are conducting on waste,” says Dr. Hird. “I will deliver a series of four public lectures at Queen Mary and Lancaster on various topics relating to waste and the environment, knowledge mobilization, and democratic engagement with university research. It is also a tremendous opportunity to build research and funding partnerships between Queen’s and these UK universities.”
Dr. Hird has developed an interdisciplinary research project with colleague Dr. Rowe, a world expert in landfill engineering. The project is called and examines a wide range of waste issues. It attempts to address a series of questions including what waste is, what our waste future will be, and what our ethical responsibility is regarding waste and the environment.
is awarded to researchers based on achievements in their field of study and lasts from three to 12 months. It was established in 1925 to support scholarships for the purposes of research and education.
