Frances Laverty, beloved wife of the late Padre Marshall Laverty, celebrated her 102nd birthday on February 15. She marked the occasion with family members at her home in Ottawa.

Padre Laverty served as Queen’s first chaplain from 1947-1983. During that time, Mrs. Laverty graciously welcomed small groups of students into her home. Generations of Queen’s alumni fondly remember the many luncheons, special events and Sunday suppers Mrs. Laverty hosted.

Family, friends and colleagues created a bursary in October 2003 to recognize the Lavertys’s dedication and contributions to Queen’s. It is awarded on the basis of financial need to third- or fourth-year students in any faculty or school. If interested, gifts to honour Mrs. Laverty’s 102nd birthday may be made to the .
