The Gazette is back.
The university’s newspaper of record will appear on newsstands across campus this week for the first time in four years.
“The return of the Gazette is part of an integrated communications strategy designed to inform and engage staff, faculty and students across multiple platforms,” says Michael Fraser, Queen’s Chief Communications Officer. “Today’s relaunch also includes a redesign of the twice weekly email to staff and faculty and will be followed by a newly designed social media and intranet hub later this month and a revamped Queen’s News Centre website this fall.”
The redesigned Gazette includes several new features including photo essays, a Lives Lived column, and Beyond the Blackboard, stories that explore teaching and learning that extends outside of the classroom. Those features join sections that many readers will recognize including Campus News, Forum, For the Record and Research at Queen’s.
The Gazette is one part of the ongoing revamp of internal communications at Queen’s. The twice weekly email to all staff and faculty is now the Queen’s Gazette Today. Instead of a digest of headlines, Queen’s Gazette Today will offer stories, events and job postings that give readers a quick look at what’s happening at Queen’s.
The , which will be redesigned and renamed the Queen’s Gazette this fall, will continue to offer daily updates about university activities. , the university’s intranet, will re-launch in the coming weeks as the one-stop shop for Queen’s information. The spring edition of the Queen’s Alumni Review will also boast a new design.
The Gazette will be funded primarily from advertising revenue. University Communications will publish the newspaper every other week during the academic year (September-April) and monthly during the spring and summer months (May-August). The newspaper will be distributed to more than a dozen newsstand locations across campus. Several unaddressed copies will also arrive in departmental mailbags each issue.
