Laura Beamish (Sci’14) (above) signs a birthday card for Alfred Bader, one of Queen’s most loyal alumni, who turned 90 on April 28. Ms. Beamish and several other current students who have received scholarships endowed by Dr. Bader (Sc’45, Arts’46, MSc’47, LLD’86) and his wife Isabel (LLD’07) sent him the card to express their appreciation for his support.
During his visit to campus in early April, Dr. Bader received a book of well-wishes from his friends and a video from Queen’s staff, faculty and students wishing him a happy birthday. He also accepted a DVD recording of a recent research symposium hosted by the Department of Art History in his honour. The graduate students who presented at the symposium had all received Bader Travel Fellowships to carry out their research. Also, the Bader International Study Centre is renovating a turret room in Herstmonceux Castle to create a small library of Dr. Bader’s books. Students will be able to access the books and use the room as a reading/study space, and there will be a plaque recognizing Dr. Bader’s contribution.
