Queen’s amended application for a temporary exemption to the city noise bylaw for two West Campus fields and Richardson Stadium will be considered by Kingston city council on July 15. It is expected that Mayor Mark Gerretsen and Councillor Sandy Berg to the staff recommendation to allow for a pilot test of the proposed exemption through June 2015.
“I thank Mayor Gerretsen and Councillor Berg for their support in offering a reasonable compromise with this amendment,” said Principal Daniel Woolf. “When added to the staff recommendation, I believe council will be asked to consider an exemption that is respectful to the immediate neighbours, but allows Queen’s student and community groups to use the fields at West Campus in a positive manner.”
A City of Kingston recommends granting a temporary exemption to the municipal noise bylaw, subject to a number of limitations and conditions, for the sports fields at West Campus and for Richardson Stadium. If council adopts the recommendations, Queen’s varsity and intramural sporting events will continue at West Campus, but under a number of conditions to ensure that the impact on neighbours from any sound generated is limited.
