Daniel Hughes did his graduate studies at The New York Academy of Art, where he worked with painters Eric Fischl and Vincent Desiderio. Daniel is a figurative painter and focuses on deconstructing traditional modes of representational painting and drawing.
Hughes has exhibited his work throughout Canada and the United States. Exhibition locations include: Kingston, Edmonton, Toronto, Montreal, Los Angeles, New York City, Santa Fe and Chicago. He has also had several solo exhibitions in London, UK.
He is a two-time recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields Award for Figurative Art, the Eric Friefeld Scholarship, the David Stephenson Award and was runner up in the Kingston Portrait Prize. Hughes was included in the BP Portrait Prize in 2005 at The National Portrait Gallery of England and The National Portrait Gallery of Scotland. Other Museum group shows shows include: The Arkansas Art Center, Little Rock, AR, The Baker Museum, Naples, FL and the JCS Museum, Auburn, AL.
Previous teaching appointments include: OCADU, Nipissing University and The Toronto School of Art. He is currently a sessional instructor in Rome, Italy with: theromeworkshops.com
