Biography

Stephanie Dickey teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on Dutch and Flemish art of the early modern period, the history of printmaking, the art of portraiture, and other topics. Stephanie received her PhD from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, and taught at Indiana University before joining the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ faculty in 2006. She is the author of numerous publications that explore the art of Rembrandt van Rijn, Anthony van Dyck, Jan Lievens and related artists, with particular interests in the cultural practice of portraiture, representations of gender and emotion, and the making and collecting of prints.  Stephanie recently curated a major exhibition, Rembrandt in Amsterdam, for the National Gallery of Canada, and has collaborated on exhibitions for the National Gallery of Art (Washington, DC), the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), and other museums. Stephanie is a past president and active participant in the international scholarly society, Historians of Netherlandish Art.


Research Interests

History of emotion, representations of women and gender, portraiture as a cultural practice, history of printmaking, the art market and collecting, with a focus on Dutch and Flemish art of the seventeenth century, especially the work of Rembrandt van Rijn and artists in his circle.
