Biography:

After a 42 year career as an analytical chemist, the last 36 years of which were at the Canadian Conservation Institute, Scott Williams retired as a Senior Conservation Scientist in 2013. At CCI he performed thousands of analyses of materials from all types of museum and cultural objects, including paintings, paper, textiles, and ethnographic and archaeological objects. His special interests were the degradation, interaction, and conservation of museum objects and storage materials composed of plastics, and the development of portable mid- and near-infrared spectroscopy for non-destructive on-site chemical analysis of objects at heritage institutions. Scott published or presented more than 80 papers for conservation, museum, and scientific professionals. Since his retirement from CCI, Scott has been teaching Microscopy and assisting in the spectroscopic analysis of materials in the Master of Art Conservation Program at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥.
