Commitment Scholar Engagement Committee

Commitment Scholar Engagement Committee

The Commitment Scholar Engagement Committee is a dedicated group of Commitment Scholars focused on enhancing Indigeneity, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Anti-Racism and Accessibility (I-EDIAA) on campus and in Kingston. We aim to amplify the voices of equity-deserving students, staff, and faculty through meaningful conversations that unite individuals from diverse backgrounds, encouraging reflection on one’s unique intersectionalities and experiences.

As the first group representing equity-deserving students committed to EDII, we strive to break down barriers, advocate for equitable practices, and promote inclusivity through hard work and determination.

Conversation CafĂ© is an annual event that offers a safe and welcoming space for passionate students, staff and faculty to connect and discuss issues of Indigeneity, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Anti-Racism and Accessibility (I-EDIAA) at Queen’s University. Each academic year offers opportunities for the Queen’s community to overcome barriers to unity, growth, and success, emphasizing the vital role of compassion and empathy in creating a connected and unified community. Conversation CafĂ© is facilitated by Commitment Scholar Engagement Committee members and creates space for meaningful and challenging conversations. Conversation CafĂ© strives to push the boundaries of I-EDIAA work, activism, and progress within our community and aims to leave participants encouraged and inspired.

2023: Pilot Year

Conversation Cafe

Conversation CafĂ© 2023 was the inaugural event of the “Conversation Café” series, designed to engage diverse participants in thought-provoking discussions which inspired growth and positive action on both personal and community levels.

“Conversations about faith made me realize that this was an area I am not too open about even though I rely heavily on it to navigate my day to day, my challenges and my victories and would like to be more vocal about this identity.”

2024: "Unite, Invite, Ignite"

Conversation Cafe 2024

Conversation CafĂ©: Unite, Invite, Ignite aimed to foster empathy and solidarity through meaningful conversations on I-EDIAA, addressing the barriers to unity and growth within the ľĹĐăÖ±˛Ą community.

“This was the most transformative event I have ever been to a Queen’s; even faculty don't speak so candidly. We need to continue involving faculty in meaningful conversations with students.”`
