Application status: OPEN (Position will remain open until filled).

We are currently accepting applications for a postdoctoral position as part of an exciting collaborative project between Queen’s University, the at the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), and (QBT). This unique opportunity allows the successful candidate to work alongside leading experts in the field, including Prof. Nir Rotenberg at Queen’s University and Dr. Dan Dalacu at NRC, focusing on developing state-of-the-art quantum dot-based photon sources.

Project Overview

The project aims to advance deterministic entangled photon sources based on quantum dots in nanowires, pushing performance boundaries for distributed quantum sensing, high-resolution imaging, and long-distance entanglement distribution. The position involves the design, fabrication and characterization of semiconductor nanostructures focusing on membrane-type devices that can be coupled to the nanowire quantum dot-based sources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and fabricate semiconductor nanostructures for quantum optical applications.
  • Characterize and test nanowire quantum dot-based photon sources.
  • Conduct experiments involving quantum optical characterization, particularly at cryogenic temperatures.
  • Collaborate closely with researchers from Queen’s University, NRC, and QBT.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Nanotechnology, or a related field.
  • Expertise in nanofabrication, particularly in the development of semiconductor-based photonic
    structures.
  • Hands-on experience with quantum optical characterization of solid-state non-classical emitters.
  • Preferable experience with cryogenic systems and related quantum optical measurements.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with a track record of publishing in peer-reviewed
    journals.

Location

This position will be based at the NRC facilities in Ottawa.

Application

Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their CV, a cover letter outlining their research experience and interest in the project, and contact details for two references. Please send your application package to either Prof. Nir Rotenberg or Dr. Dan Dalacu.
