Coming to Queens for my studies has been a fantastic experience.
Due to the relatively small size of the department, the relationships between professors and graduate students are quite close. Almost everyone knows each other. After classes, many professors are willing to spend time discussing with students. This friendly and supportive atmosphere not only reduces classroom pressure but also enhances learning efficiency.
In terms of research, my advisor arranges regular discussions every week and encourages us to participate in various conferences and workshops. This not only expanded my knowledge but also allowed me to meet many potential collaborators.
"We hold a graduate seminar every week, where we take turns sharing our research subjects or some interesting topics."
Pei-Lun Tseng
Among the graduate students, the entire mathematics department feels like a warm family, and our relationships are very close. Besides discussing course contents together, we hold a graduate seminar every week, where we take turns sharing our research subjects or some interesting topics. Outside of class, we often go on outings and have meals together, strengthening our social bonds and friendships.
Living in Kingston has also left me with wonderful memories. This quaint town lacks crowded crowds and traffic jams, making strolling through its streets incredibly comfortable and peaceful. The mathematics building is only a five-minute walk from Lake Ontario. When I need to clear my mind or relax, I often take a leisurely walk to the lakeside, enjoying the tranquility and sipping a cup of coffee.
