From my experience, the Math graduate program at Queen’s offers an ideal blend of mentorship and self-teaching. Predicated on my initial attempt to digest challenging material, my advisors effectively compressed months of knowledge into days through carefully thought-out counterexamples, "toy" problems, and insights. In fact, the highlight of my time at Queen’s was our weekly exchanges at the blackboard, discussing mathematics, control theory, and other topics.
Instruction was not only limited to mathematics. The discussions I enjoyed with my advisors, course lecturers, and other faculty were lined with valuable career and life advice. My advisors encouraged me to travel for several weeks and attend international conferences; these networking experiences led to important instances of growth, and prepared me to lead a deliberate career.

When it was time to move on from Queen’s Math, I benefitted from the academic network curated by the Math faculty. By leveraging pre-established connections, I was able to continue my studied in San Diego and unlock many opportunities. In my experience, the Math graduate program can reveal hidden doors of opportunity, and equips students with the tools to cut the key.
It is certainly not unique that I have very fond memories of my Queen’s Math graduate studies.
