Representatives of the University and QUFA agreed on November 11th to apply jointly to the Ministry of Labour requesting the appointment of a conciliator to assist the Parties in connection with the negotiation of a renewed collective agreement for faculty, librarians and archivists. Conciliation is a feature of the Labour Relations Act, 1995, and the Parties have utilized the services of a conciliator in past rounds of bargaining.
As a conciliator is not available until January, the Parties also agreed to retain the services of a mediator as a demonstration of shared interest in reaching a tentative agreement.
The University’s administration respects the collective bargaining process and remains committed to working through it to reach an agreement that is capable of being ratified by both parties.
