JDUC
John Deutsch University Centre (JDUC) renovations are ongoing and will help student life grow and thrive by accommodating more than 100 clubs, increasing new spaces for community gathering, study, and wellness, a pub, as well as expanded student-run business services.
As part of the broader project, the section of the building that is home to 91 student residence beds reopened in September 2024 and has undergone significant building infrastructure upgrades, as well as renewal and modernization of floor lounge spaces and student rooms and the creation of new study spaces on each floor.
In addition to the Residence upgrades, we are excited to renew our retail food locations in the building. KHAO Asian infusion will receive a full modernization and space upgrade, and we are introducing Clove & Spice, a new Mediterranean-inspired shawarma location and Bento sushi, to continue diversifying our food offerings on campus.
The JDUC food operations are closed during renovations, anticipating reopening in early 2025.

A new Community Room in Building 7 opened in June 2023.This significant renovation expanded this communities gathering space at the An Clachan complex by 100% and provides a great new space for community programming and special events. Tenants of the An Clachan community, families and friends are able to enjoy more opportunities to celebrate as a community.
Modernization Projects
We proactively and regularly assess building infrastructure systems, including branch wiring, water distribution and sanitary systems, and building life safety systems, to inform our annual capital investment projects and maintain the safety and comfort of the living and dining environments we provide to the Queen’s community.
- Community Housing is in year two of a four-year University District revitalization plan consisting of masonry, soffit and structural repairs to university-owned houses in the University District.
- To enhance the security of residence buildings, a multi-year plan has been developed to improve building access control measures and implement video surveillance across all residence buildings. The supporting digital infrastructure necessary for these measures has been completed, as well as an assessment to determine sequencing of buildings over the next several years. In the summer of 2023, full video surveillance was installed throughout Victoria Hall.
- Lighting upgrade projects to reduce energy consumption and improve interior lighting are being undertaken across several buildings managed by Housing & Ancillary Services, primarily replacing older lighting systems with LEDs. Waldron Tower, Jean Royce Hall 1 & II (common areas, hallways & corridors) and the DGHCC have been completed. Next buildings scheduled for updates are Adelaide, Ban Righ & Morris.
