Matt is returning to Queen’s from work in China as a first year MA candidate under the supervision of Dr. Rosa Bruno-Jofre. His research focuses on the developments in education and religious renewal in the laity and religious orders in post-Trent Catholic Europe. His broader academic interests include the Renaissance and Reformation, the Jesuit missions in Ming China and Sengoku Japan, the relationship of education and missionary work, and Westernization and development in East Asia in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Outside of school and work, Matt enjoys hiking and cycling, language learning, and jamming with his bandmates. He has a lifelong passion for baseball and is an avid fan of Osaka’s Hanshin Tigers.
