Ph.D. Candidate Joe Borsato published a short academic essay on the early Canada blog Borealia. The piece, entitled "The Guianan Foundations of Newfoundland Colonization," offers a hemispheric approach to understanding how Anglo-Indigenous relations in the seventeenth century linked colonization efforts in Guiana and Newfoundland.
This comment furthers Borsato's own dissertation research, which examines "Indigenous nations’ legal assertions of territorial possession against English merchant companies in the early seventeenth century," and was circulated as part of the Omohundro Institute of Early American History and Culture's virtual blog network.
