¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ is an excellent school that offers unparalleled academic rigour.
My focus in the history department was on race and gender. I was allowed plenty of opportunities to pursue my interests in Black and Indigenous histories, women's history, and Queer history. I did not come from a background of privilege like many of my classmates but thankfully I received assistance and was able to follow my areas of interest. The support from the department on emerging notions of history really helped me to thrive.
I have degrees from McGill University in social work as well, and my time at McGill does not compare with my time at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥. I was challenged to grow and expand my mind in so many ways. The amount of reading and studying of primary sources at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ allowed me to breeze through my other degrees.
I was involved in so many extra activities that really have lead me on my current career path. I volunteered my time as the chair of the Alma Mater Society (AMS) Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Issues Committee and as a board member of Kingston's Lesbian and Gay Association. Alfie's was always a favourite place to hang out. I also wrote articles for the student papers at the time.
Advice to History students: My advice is to study hard and go beyond what is being asked of you. I would encourage participating in as many extra curricular activities that you can manage. Most importantly, I would say to make friends as they will last far beyond your time at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥.
