BAH WMNS & ENGL 2006

"I completed my BAH in Women's Studies and English in 2006. For me, 2006 was a pivotal year. I had the incredible honour of learning from Dr. Dina Georgis and Dr. Katherine McKittrick whose teaching and mentorship had a profound impact on my academic trajectory. I finalized my undergraduate thesis on representations of migrant justice in documentary film under the supervision of Dr. Dina Georgis; published in the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Feminist Review and Culture Shock Anti-Racist Review; and applied to graduate school. I went on to complete my MA in Women and Gender Studies, and Sociology and Equity Studies in Education (Social Justice in Education) at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto. I then completed my PhD in Gender, Feminist, and Women's Studies at York University, alongside ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ alumni, Dr. Nael Bhanji and Dr. Grace Adeniyi-Ogunyankin

Currently, I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at Toronto Metropolitan University where I get to learn from a growing interdisciplinary community of scholars, scholar-activists, and students. Most recently, I co-founded the Pahinga (Rest) Collective with Filipinx/a/o graduate students, community organizers, and service providers representing migrant, queer, and feminist grassroots organizations in Tkaronto. The Pahinga Collective's hope is to contribute to more embodied understandings of rest as a form of anti-colonial, anti-capitalist resistance."
