Andrejs Skaburskis was a professor at the School of Urban and Regional Planning at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ where he taught courses in land economics, housing policy and statistics. He is the North American Editor of Urban Studies. He started his professional career as an architect (B. Arch McGill 1966) working as an Urban Designer on large-scale projects in Montreal. He was a registered architect in Quebec before returning to graduate studies at UC Berkeley. After finishing their two year Urban Design program leading to the MArch and MCP degrees, he entered the PhD program. While preparing for the Planning Department’s qualifying exams in location theory and planning theory he completed the three sequences of courses required of PhD candidates in Economics: economic theory, public finance and econometrics. He graduated from UC Berkeley in 1976 with the American Institute of Planners award for "Outstanding Academic Ability". Andrejs started a successful consulting firm in Vancouver BC before returning to the academy in 1984. His research deals mostly with housing issues and his interests lie in the study of change in urban and regional spatial structure. He is now retired as a Professor Emeritus but continues work as an Editor and occasional lecturer.
Credentials:
- B.Arch. (McGill)
- M.Arch., M.C.P., Ph.D. (U.C. Berkeley)
Research Interests:
My primary research interest lies in exploring the changing structure of cities. Much of this work is carried out by studying housing markets. The work has mostly involved quantitative analysis but is now turning more toward thinking about concepts and borrowing from disciplines other than economics.
