¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥'s convocation ceremonies were a celebration like no other with three classes and approximately 6,000 graduates crossing the stage.
Delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Queen’s held its first in-person convocation ceremonies since 2019, celebrating the completion of studies for not only the Class of 2022 but also the Classes of 2021 and 2020.
In total there were 11 ceremonies, 10 of which were held at the Leon’s Centre in downtown Kingston during the week of June 20-24. Another ceremony was held May 27 at Grant Hall for 2022 graduates of the medicine and law programs. More than 10,000 guests attended the ceremonies as well.
Convocation is an integral part of the academic journey at Queen’s as a capstone event for the successful completion of each graduate’s studies. It is a time for families, friends, and the Queen’s community to celebrate each achievement.
It’s also a time to recognize the efforts and contributions of graduates with academic awards, as well as for educators with the awarding of the Baillie Awards for Excellence in Secondary School Teaching, which recognize the role of high school educators as mentors, and the Prizes for Excellence in Research, among others.
During the ceremonies 65 academic medals were handed out to 2022 graduates and 34 Indigenous gifts were presented. Approximately 100 staff and volunteers helped ensure the success of each ceremony.
Joining the celebration, the City of Kingston illuminated City Hall in Queen’s tricolour.
Recordings of the ceremonies will be posted to the Office of the University Registrar’s website.
