Through the 2019-20 , Queen’s staff and faculty will have the opportunity to learn new skills, improve their wellness, and understand different perspectives. Registration started on Monday, Sept. 2.
With more than 135 offerings, including lunch-and-learns, certificate programs, and a variety of health and fitness classes, the catalogue provides Queen’s staff and faculty members with a variety of options for self-improvement.
Building on the strong interest in last year’s “Land Acknowledgments” workshop, the HR Learning Catalogue this year will include a new lunch and learn series called “Indigenous Perspectives.” Topics for this series include Indigenous approaches to issues such as leadership, medicine and health, student service, and teaching and learning. These lunchtime workshops will begin in the fall term.
The Office of the University Secretariat will also be launching new offerings. These new modules, such as “Records Management 101” and “Contracts Roadshow,” aim to address subjects that many staff and faculty frequently encounter in their work and may want to understand more fully. Queen’s staff and faculty who want to learn more about how certain pieces of legislation affect the workplace may be interested in signing up for “FIPPA, PHIPA & CASL – oh my!”
Staff and faculty who are working on their personal wellness goals will be able to enroll in classes at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC). Classes are held at the ARC every day at noon, and there are also two after-work classes a week. In addition to these classes, Human Resources will be offering its annual Thrive Week in October.
The centerpiece of the HR Learning Catalogue is a series of certificate programs: From Diversity to Inclusion in the Workplace Certificate (DIW); Certificate in Workplace Communications (CWC); Certificate in International Perspectives (CIP); Administrative Professionals at Queen’s Certificate (APAQ); and Administrative Professionals at Queen’s Master Certificate (APAQM). These programs enable staff and faculty to develop a greater level of competency in key aspects of their work.
Returning to the catalogue this year is the “Building Your Career @ Queen’s” lunch and learn series. This initiative encompasses three sessions: “Career Clarity: Finding your path”; “Mentorship & Networking: Growing your connections”; and “Next Steps: Career Progression @ Queen’s.” Participants will learn about the range of resources and opportunities that Queen’s provides to support professional development and career advancement.
“Building Your Career @ Queen’s” was launched in January 2019 as an initiative from the Office of the Vice-Principal of Finance and Administration in collaboration with Human Resources. Last year, demand for this series was high, so interested employees are encouraged to register early.
