Easter (W), Second Day of Pesaḥ, First Day of Riḍván

    When:
Sunday, April 21, 2019 (all day)
    Description:

Easter: Celebrates the resurrection of Jesus. It initiates the fifty-day period culminating in Pentecost.

Pesaḥ: (Until April 26 for Reform Jews; Until April 27 for Orthodox and Conservative Jews) Pesaḥ commemorates the departure of the Israelites from Egypt. It is the first of the three major festivals with both historical and agricultural significance (the other two are Shavuot and Sukkot). The evenings of the first and second days begin with Seders (festive meals and the telling of the Passover story). For Orthodox and Conservative Jews outside Israel Pesaḥ is celebrated for eight days: eve + first and second days + seventh (second last) and eighth (last) days are non-working.

The Festival of Riḍván, termed by Bahá’u’lláh the “Most Great Festival” and the “King of Festivals”, commemorates the 12 days that Bahá’u’lláh spent in the garden of Riḍván outside Baghdad. The festival commemorates Bahá'u'lláh's public declaration of His mission to His family and closest followers. The first, the ninth, and the twelfth days of Riḍván are Bahá’í Holy Days on which work is suspended.
