HYBRID EVENT: Anti-black racism in the criminal justice system: building a toolkit for resistance and reform
Visiting speaker Annamaria Enenajor will discuss Canada's criminal law system, and the evolution of addressing anti-Black racism, from resistance to acknowledgment. Students will then engage in an exercise of building a toolkit which contributes to this evolution: From summarizing key cases that define what anti-Black racism looks like before the criminal justice system to researching novel ways in of considering the prevalence of anti-Black racism in substantive law, such as in the interpretation of the actus reus of an offence. Annamaria Enenajor is a Partner at Ruby Shiller Enenajor, Barristers and a visiting professor at Osgoode Hall Law School.
