    Description:

Experience the choral ensembles of the DAN School of Drama & Music together with friends from the Kingston Chamber Choir in a spectacular concert of choral music. The DAN School will be welcoming the award-winning Filipino-American composer, conductor, and singer Matthew Lyon Hazzard to Queenā€™s University for a weeklong residency, culminating in this spotlight performance of his work. This performance will feature Matthew as a guest conductor on several pieces along with the choirā€™s resident conductor, Darrell Christie. Despite being only 33, Matthewā€™s award-winning work is praised for ā€œexquisite text-settingā€ and for creating ā€œstunning landscapes of sound,ā€ that will fill the Isabel's Jennifer Velva Bernstein Performance Hall as 75 singers accompanied by string quartet and immersive projections bring his music to life. Thereā€™s even a choir of crystal glasses! Much of Matthewā€™s music is based around ideas of connection: connection to each other, connection to the land, connection to our past, and to our future. His refreshing approach to choral music explores what group singing can be in the twenty-first century, making this a performance not to miss!
