    Description:

In various religions, mobility and transition – in a bodily as much as in a spiritual way –belong to the most fundamental topics, experiences, and expectations. Religious sources frequently reflect the common experience of human beings “on the run” in various concepts and metaphors from “Exodus” to the “transmigration of souls” Using Yuri Slezkine’s (2004) role models of Mercury and Apollo to describe two ways of coping with spatial, social and transcendental mobility, we will discuss migration in religious contexts, but also in programs of social and / or individual self-assessment.
