Drew MacDonald

Biography

I hold a PhD in English Language and Literature from Queenā€™s University, an MA from the University of Victoria, and a BA from Wilfrid Laurier University. At Queenā€™s, I specialized in British Romanticism, and my dissertation was on the religious revival in eighteenth-century Britain and the Romantic and Victorian essayist Thomas De Quincey (1785-1859). I very much enjoy teaching: highlights include designing and delivering English and writing courses at Queenā€™s, Bishopā€™s University, Seneca College, and George Brown College.

Teaching Approach

I aim to create educational environments where students meet learning outcomes, develop critical thinking and writing skills, and gain intellectual independence. To achieve these results in my courses, I use Universal Design for Learning (UDL), integrate evidence-based pedagogical practices (such as active learning), and provide substantial student feedback on assignments.

Research Interests

British Romanticism; the literature of war; the literature of addiction; the personal essay.
