Computing, Queen's School of

Studies in computing began at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ in 1960 in the engineering faculty. The early base for computing activity was the Computing Centre in Ellis Hall, which was administered by Applied Science until 1965 when it was taken over by the new Computing Services Department.

Primary responsibility for teaching and research in computing switched to the Department of Computing and Information Science in the Faculty of Arts and Science on the founding of the department in 1969.

The department has grown rapidly since its early days. An undergraduate honours program and an MSc program were established in the mid-1970s and a PhD program in 1985. In 2001, the department became the ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ School of Computing.

Since 2009, the School has been home to the first Industrial Chair in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
