Cultural Studies
Brittany Dale (she/they) is a burlesque performer, beadwork artist, self-proclaimed policy nerd, and Cultural Studies MA student at Queen’s University. They are a proud Two-Spirit Queer Mohawk from Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte/Tyendinaga.
Brittany’s academic research at Queen’s primarily focuses on the attempted erasure of Two-Spirit people through colonization and residential schools. Brittany is particularly interested in this research in light of the significant increase in anti-Trans legislation in Canadian elementary schools.
Brittany holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honours from the First Nation Technical Institute and Toronto Metropolitan University in the Public Administration and Governance. During this time, she received number academic awards including the Hans Johanson Award Recipient for highest overall GPA among Public Administration and Governance graduates and the Gerda Kaegi Best Practicum Award for her paper "Make it Stop: Discrimination Against Women in Membership Provisions".
Brittany is also an alumni from St. Lawrence College’s Musical Theatre Performance program. Since 2017, they have turned their love for musical theatre into a thriving burlesque career. Brittany continues to be one of the most recognizable faces in the Ottawa/Ontario Burlesque scene and has performed all over Turtle Island.
Brittany, along with her three cats, Barry, Rosie and Hank, have recently relocated to Katarokwi/Kingston, from Odawa/Ottawa. Brittany is thrilled to be closer to family, friends, and community in Tyendinaga. The cats are still unsure.
