Mohammed Waranle is a Cultural Studies PhD student at ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥. He comes from the Somali pastoral community of Northern Kenya. He has a Master's degree and a Bachelor's degree in International Relations from the United States International University-Africa (USIU-A). He has quite a background in Research and has consulted for both government and International Organizations both in Kenya and Somalia. He has also taught International Relations to Undergraduates in Kenya.
His research interests cut across multiple areas including, decolonization, African democracy, electoral conflicts, radicalization and counter-violent extremism, Gender based violence, Female Genital Mutilation and the biopolitics of sexuality, among many others. His current PhD research is on African electoral democracy, and he specifically wants to focus on a concept called "Negotiated democracy" which has its roots in the Somali tradition, which has been used as a tool for solving electoral tensions and conflicts both in Somalia and Kenya's Northeastern region.
