The Why
Recent research suggests that engagement with music not only shapes our personal and cultural identities but also plays a role in mood regulation and positive mental health. In addition to its healing potential, music can magnify the message of diversity and inclusion by introducing people to new cultures and amplifying the voice of marginalized communities, thereby enhancing our understanding and appreciation for diverse communities. It can also facilitate emotional release, promote self-reflection, and create a stronger sense of community. ()
The What
In Note for Note we use music - listening, playing, sharing - as a tool to facilitate connection, community and a growth mindset and contribute to a more inclusive campus culture. Hosted by the Shift Project and FSL, this student-led weekly session will include group conversations rooted in lived experiences, music's impact on identity and sense of self, and music as a means to foster deep community connections. Student participants are encouraged to bring songs that resonate with them to share with the group. The ability to play an instrument or sing is not required; the only pre-requisite is an appreciation for music and conversation.
Join us every Thursday from 4-5:30pm in the Interfaith Room in Mitchell Hall (2nd Floor just outside the elevators).
