Department of English
As an international student who left four kids in their home country, I struggled during my initial days at Queen's. I'm thankful for this good and respectful teacher-student relationship because it helped me to overcome a lot of stress with the transition as an international student. Melissa always made the time to ask me about my children and she always says "I am proud of you" which became my inner voice. Whenever I found myself stressed, her words helped me to overcome all the stress with ease. Melissa helped me to feel more secure in my transition as an international student and made the transition more smooth.
Anonymous Student
In my role as an instructor, mental health means I'm providing not only academic support, but I also provide emotional support to my students. I endeavour to make my classroom an inclusive, safe space for all.
As part of a larger team, I am committed to providing the students with the support they need to be happy and successful in the classroom and outside the classroom. I believe in treating each student as an individual. This is key to addressing any mental health concerns.
At the School of English, we have students from all over the world. They have chosen to leave their families for the opportunity to study in Canada. I am always amazed at their resilience, and I want to support them in any way I can.
