Karlyn Roberts has been hired by Queen’s as the new manager of the Western Regional Office based in Calgary.
“As a Queen’s alumna and parent, I am very excited to take on this role and look forward to representing the university, alumni, and students,” says Karlyn. “Queen’s reputation for producing outstanding graduates and the school’s enduring spirit of initiative is what attracted me to this opportunity. As Queen’s moves towards its 175th birthday, I am proud to be part of an institution that is transforming and positioning itself for a 21st-century world.”
She joins the university’s Office of Advancement after a 15-year career with the Calgary Herald advertising department, where she most recently held the title of senior advertising sales manager.
Karlyn’s duties include engaging with alumni and supporting the university’s Initiative Campaign. The fundraising campaign, which concludes in 2016, seeks to raise at least $500 million.
Calgary is an important city to Queen’s because it is home to more than 4,200 Queen’s alumni. It has one of the Queen’s University Alumni Association’s largest and most active branches outside of Ontario.
“Calgary and Queen’s have enjoyed a special relationship for many years. Despite the distance from Kingston, the Calgary Branch has been the glue that keeps us all connected," says Tom Hewitt, Chief Development Officer at Queen’s. “Karlyn will continue the tradition of great service on behalf of ֱ that her predecessor, Jim Campbell, performed so ably.”
Karlyn’s responsibilities extend beyond the Calgary area. She will also work with Queen’s alumni and students from all across Western Canada, including Vancouver, Edmonton, Regina, and Saskatoon.
Karlyn graduated from Queen’s with an honours BA in political studies. She also has a Master’s degree in Communications Studies from the University of Calgary.
