The Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts will open its doors in 2014, providing Queen’s and Kingston with a state-of-the-art facility for community and student performance, education, creativity and training. The Centre will be home to the Department of Film and Media, and provide teaching, performance, and exhibition spaces for the School of Music, the Department of Drama, and the Bachelor of Fine Art Program, thereby embracing the principle of interactivity and integration through common teaching rooms, joint courses and shared public spaces and services.
The design of the Centre has taken the best features of the world's greatest facilities and combined them with advances in modern technology to create a world-class building. The 80,000-square-foot facility will feature an acoustically superior, 560-seat concert hall and a 100-seat studio theatre, as well as an art and media lab, a film screening room, laboratories, classrooms and rehearsal space.
The $63-million Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts has been made possible through a transformational gift from Drs. Alfred, Sc’45, Arts’46, MSc’47, LLD’86, and Isabel Bader, LLD’07, the City of Kingston in partnership with the federal and provincial governments and other generous donors.
