10 Years of Schulich Leaders at Queen’s

Schulich Leader Scholarships 2021

In July, Queen’s introduced the new Schulich Leaders who will arrive on campus this fall. The 10 future leaders are all enrolled in STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering, and math).

The , worth up to $100,000, was launched in 2012 by Canadian businessman and philanthropist Seymour Schulich to help identify the next generation of Canada’s brightest potential leaders in STEM.

Prestigious Schulich Leader Scholarships provide backing for innovative and entrepreneurial-minded youth to change the world through their passion for STEM. The scholarships remove students’ financial burdens and allow them to focus their energy on their studies.

This year, The Schulich Foundation is celebrating the program’s 10th anniversary. Up to 100 scholarships are awarded annually across 20 partner universities. Queen’s has hosted Schulich Leaders every year over the past decade and a total of 46 Schulich Leaders have studied at Queen’s since the program began in 2012.

“It’s gratifying that this important and meaningful investment in the future of Canada is off to a strong start. Schulich Leaders will be the engine that drives prosperity for our country. We look forward to supporting exceptional students pursuing their STEM education for many years to come,” says program founder Seymour Schulich.

To celebrate 10 years of Schulich Leaders at Queen’s, we connected with some current and past scholarship recipients to learn how the Schulich Leader Scholarships have had an impact on their studies and careers, as well as their plans for innovating in the STEM world.

“Personally, it (receiving the Schulich Leader Scholarship) completely changed the trajectory of my life. There’s nothing else I could have received that would’ve changed my life in the same way. It was such a unique inflection point for me” said Isabel Hazan, a 2016 Schulich Leader who received $80,000. “I think creating a program with a specific goal of fostering young entrepreneurial energy in Canada and keeping it here is a really worthwhile endeavour.”
